Wayne State University has won the heart of the State of Michigan. After adding more names to the Michigan Organ Donor Registry than any other college during the 11th annual Gift of Life Campus Challenge, the university will be recognized for its efforts on Wednesday, April 2.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Gift of Life Michigan, the Michigan Eye Bank and Wayne State’s Alpha Gamma Delta chapter will host Heart of a Warrior in honor of Donate Life Day.

The event will be held in the Gullen Mall area and include a brief press conference, music, appearances by personalities from WKQI-FM (Channel 955), awards for organ donation champions, giveaways and the full-service Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office. Students, faculty and community members will be invited to sign up on Michigan’s Organ Donor Registry.

Alpha Gamma Delta was instrumental in helping Wayne State win the Gift of Life Campus Challenge for the third consecutive year. Inspired by the memory of their sorority sister Rebecca Joy Butler, daughter of associate business professor Timothy Butler, the chapter’s members have organized numerous awareness and registration events across campus and in the community. This year, they inspired more than 600 new donors.

Heart of a Warrior will kick off with a press conference at 10:30 a.m. followed by Donate Life Day festivities. For more information, visit the WSU events calendar. The event is free and open to the public.
