Wayne State University's Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and the U. S. Institute of Peace and the World Affairs Council of Detroit will host a discussion with Stephen Dachi on his personal experience with negotiations on Iran and their nuclear aspirations.
Dachi's lecture will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Troy Marriott on Big Beaver Rd.
In 2007, he represented the United States at an international conference in Tunisia in a meeting with representatives of the Iranian government, as part of the ongoing dispute about Iran's nuclear enrichment program. In 2010 he spent a week in Iran and visited several Iranian cities, leading a group of professionals from the U.S. and other countries and conducting a seminar on Iranian history, politics and the nuclear issue.
Dachi is a foreign affairs specialist and international consultant, who served as a diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service in Asia, Central Europe and Latin America from 1967 to 1996.
From 1996-2010 he was Chair for South Asia Area Studies (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh) as well as Special Afghanistan Programs at the Foreign Service Institute of the Department of State, in charge of training for officials in government foreign affairs agencies, including the diplomatic, military, intelligence and law enforcement fields. Until 2005, he headed an international trade and investment consulting group, with clients in Asia, Central Europe and Latin America.
The lecture is $20, and is open to the public. For more information, call (313) 577-8270.
