Center for Peace and Conflict Studies to host Max Mark-Cranbrook Peace Lecture and Peacemaker Awards, Nov. 17

Guest speaker NPRʼs Deborah Amos; awardees include Searching for Sugar Man's Sixto Rodriguez

DETROIT - The Center for Peace and Conflict Studies is hosting the 2013 Max Mark-Cranbrook Peace Lecture and Peacemaker Awards ceremony Nov. 17 at Wayne State University Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. A reception will follow at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

In addition to her talk, "Latest Developments in Middle East," NPR International Correspondent Deborah Amos will receive a Global Peacemaker Award.

The 2013 Community Peacemaker Awards will go to philosopher and lifelong social activist Grace Lee Boggs and Ron Scott, Peace Zones for Life founder.

Alvin Saperstein, Wayne State University professor and physicist, and renowned Detroit musician -- and subject of the documentary Searching for Sugar Man -- Sixto Rodriguez will receive International Peace Collaboration Awards.

WDET Detroit Public Radio 101.9 FM News Director Jerome Vaughn will be the master of ceremonies.

The cost to attend the lecture is $5; students with Wayne State University ID will be admitted for free. The lecture, VIP reception and dinner/dancing is $60 for an individual and $100 for two tickets.

The lecture and award ceremony is from 3 to 5 p.m. The VIP reception is from 5 to 6 p.m. For more event information call 313-577-3453.
