If you walk too quickly through WSU’s Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences building, you might miss more than 100 years of pharmaceutical history.
Tucked away on the building’s first floor lies The Pharmuseum - a quirky, glass-enclosed room that contains hundreds of artifacts telling the story of the pharmaceutical industry. There, you'll find everything from mortars and pestles to antique prescription bottles to weights and measures dating back to the late 1800s.
According to former WSU Pharmacy Professor and current Curator Andy Vivian, many of the Pharmuseum's items have been donated over the years by faculty and staff. "It's a great spot to catch a glimpse of the past and see what an old pharmacy would look like,” she says.
So, next time you're passing that part of Midtown, stop in and take a look. Wayne State's Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is located at 259 Mack Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201.
