After 94 seasons of playing by the light of day, Wayne State’s football team will host the program’s first night game at Tom Adams Field at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, opening the season against defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Ashland University.

Head Coach Paul Winters, who is entering his tenth season at the helm of Warrior football, is excited to share the historic moment with the team’s supporters.

“We can’t wait to see and hear the enthusiasm of our students, alumni and fans at the first collegiate night game at Adams Field,” said Winters.

WSU will use the special event to celebrate its entire athletic department. During halftime, each varsity team will be introduced in a parade of athletes modeled after the Olympics’ opening ceremony.

Admission to home games is free for WSU students, and tailgating is permitted in the Matthaei Physical Education Center’s newly paved parking lot. Several food trucks will be at the game offering a variety of delicious dining options. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive glow sticks to light up the stands.
