Federal EEOC chief David Lopez to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month at Wayne State Annual Gala

Wayne State University's Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (WSU Latino/a Studies) will hold its 42nd Anniversary Gala & Celebración on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the UAW GM Center for Human Resources, 200 Walker Street, Detroit, Mich. This year's event will feature David López, General Counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).   López is the first EEOC field trial attorney to be appointed as General Counsel when nominated to serve a four-year term by President Barack Obama in 2010.  In his role, López oversees the commission's federal court litigation on behalf of victims of employment discrimination.

Mistress of Ceremonies for this year's event will be Ali Rivera Piloni, president's club solution consultant for Quicken Loans.

In addition to annual awards and recognitions, this year's event will feature a special video presentation by CBS Scholars Program alum and world renowned musician Sixto "Sugarman" Rodríguez, as well as a special musical tribute to recently departed CBS Scholars Program alum Benny Cruz.

This event kicks off Wayne State's observance of the National Hispanic Heritage Month and raises money for the center's student retention programming. It is made possible through the charitable contributions of its many guests, as well as sponsors such as the UAW, Comerica Bank, Dakkota Integrated Systems, AARP, MGM Grand Detroit, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy, Dalia García and Wayne State University's Division of Research and Office of Government and Community Affairs.
