Crime Stoppers of Michigan has tapped WSU Police Chief Anthony Holt as this year’s top law enforcement honoree.
Holt, along with two other honorees representing the nonprofit and business sectors to be named later, will be recognized during the organization’s Sept. 24 annual event at the General Motors Heritage Center in Sterling Heights. Award recipients will be honored for making a significant impact in Southeast Michigan through their leadership, commitment and service as role models.
Holt will be the first university police chief to receive the law enforcement award since its inception in 2005. Past honorees have included Barbara McQuade, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan; Andy Arena, Special Agent in Charge, Detroit Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation; and David Gorcyca, former Oakland County Prosecutor, to name a few.
In the law enforcement category, Crime Stoppers of Michigan credits Holt and Wayne State’s police department with a 45 percent decrease in all major crime categories in the Midtown area since 2008.
“This is a great award which recognizes the collaboration of our partners in Midtown to make this a great and safe community,” Holt said.
