Kendra Schwartz, M.D., M.S.P.H., professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, has been appointed assistant dean for Clinical Education at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

The appointment, announced Jan. 28 by Vice Dean of Medical Education Maryjean Schenk, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., is effective March 4.

Dr. Schwartz, of Farmington Hills, completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in 1977 and her master’s of science degree in Public Health at the University of California-Los Angeles School of Public Health in 1984.

She received her medical degree in 1989 from the University of California-Los Angeles, and served a Family Medicine residency at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.

She has been a full professor with the School of Medicine and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Population Studies and Disparities Research Program since 2005.

Dr. Schwartz also is an accomplished researcher in primary care and cancer epidemiology with a long history of external funding and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. During her career she has served as advisor and mentor to medical students, public health students and junior faculty.
