Before joining Wayne State University, Margolis owned and operated her own consulting firm, providing human resources, customer service and technology consulting, and training solutions for businesses, schools and non-profit agencies. She is a city council member for the City of Novi, elected to two terms, during which she helped raise significant funding for the construction of a new city library. She also serves as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State.
