On Nov. 12, 2012, the Wayne State University Board of Governors approved the establishment of a Presidential Search Advisory Committee. This is the first step of the search process for a permanent successor to President Allan Gilmour, who will be stepping down in June 2013.

The duties of the search committee, chaired by board member Gary Pollard, are to provide information and advice to the Board of Governors, and to develop and recommend for consideration a pool of prospective candidates. The search committee is comprised of representatives from the board, faculty, staff, administration, students, alumni and members of the Detroit metropolitan community.

The search committee will make its selection from a diverse field of potential candidates who meet the position description adopted by the Board of Governors. Following initial rounds of evaluations, the search committee will provide the Board of Governors with an unranked list of no more than five people it recommends as the most highly qualified candidates for the presidency.

As the search process unfolds, the committee and the Board of Governors will hold forums to solicit questions and advice from members of the campus community and beyond. The first forum will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the Blue Lecture Hall in Scott Hall, and two additional forums have been scheduled, all of which are open to the public.
