Wayne State University introduces new student recognition program

Get rewarded for being awesome with readabout.me

Wayne State University uses readabout.me software to publicize student achievements and activities on campus — like making the dean's list, studying abroad, or participating in a club, athletic team or theatre production — by creating personalized stories about these accomplishments and publishing them online at readabout.me. The university also sends news releases to students’ hometown newspapers.

All achievements on readabout.me will be awarded a “badge of approval” to show that they've been verified by Wayne State. On readabout.me, students can claim their achievement by connecting it to Facebook, which allows them to add a photo and share their badge with their social networks.

Why should students care about readabout.me?

Readabout.me helps potential employers find the “good stuff” about you online and recognizes your accomplishments with verified badges. Seventy-five percent of companies research applicants online, and 70 percent have rejected applicants based on what they have found. Those are pretty scary numbers if you’re just starting out in your career.

What kinds of achievements might we promote?

• Enrollment
• Graduation
• Dean's List
• Merit scholarships
• Fellowships
• Study abroad travel and scholarships
• Major research projects
• Internships
• Sports participation
• Departmental honor societies
• Alternative spring break or service-learning trips
• Senior award recipients
• Student-athletes who have signed letters of intent

Do more with your profile…

You can enhance your readabout.me profile by uploading your photo to make it more personal.

You and your family can really help get your achievements in front of employers and grad schools by liking them, tweeting them, linking to them (on blogs or other websites), and posting them to Tumblr and other social media sites.

You can also input your own achievements, such as activities, internships, volunteerism and work experience.

Wayne State University adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
