Presidential, local elections topic of Wayne State University lecture Oct. 9

What: The presidential election is Nov. 6, and talk is heating up among political pundits who are analyzing President Obama’s four years in office. Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley and Detroit News political cartoonist Henry Payne will share their views on hot-button issues that will affect both the presidential and local elections in 2012. The discussion will be moderated by WDET-FM’s Craig Fahle.

Riley’s commentary on social, political and cultural issues appears in the Detroit Free Press. She makes frequent television and radio appearances, including on National Public Radio, WDET-FM and WDIV-TV’s “Flashpoint.”

Payne is an editorial cartoonist and writer for the Detroit News, and editor of TheMichiganView.com. A Pulitzer Prize-nominated cartoonist, Payne produces five editorial cartoons a week for the Detroit News. His work is reprinted in the New York Times, USA Today, National Review and other publications.

Fahle hosts “The Craig Fahle Show” weekdays on WDET-FM.

The Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series began in 1992 and was named in honor of the civil rights leader and former Wayne State University administrator upon his retirement. The lecture series features distinguished corporate and civic leaders who speak on a wide range of current issues, including politics, business, law and the arts.
