WDET distributes over 22,000 books to kids in metro Detroit through Books For Kids initiative

Nearly 1,000 people donated to WDET's Books for Kids drive in April 2012. Operation: Kid Equip worked closely with Wayne State University's WDET to turn each $5 donation into 20 children's books that are being distributed over the course of this summer. Over 22,000 books will be distributed to kids in need. Books have already been distributed in Eastpointe and as part of Yusef Shakur’s Zone 8 Backpack event in Detroit. Books will also be given to the Urban Network Cafe to establish a free take-away library for children in Detroit. Five additional local agencies will receive donations of 1,000+ books each this August. There are two upcoming community events that WDET will be supplying books for.
