The University will host the series of free events every Thursday throughout the fall semester. The program - dubbed Thursdays in the D - is sponsored by the Dean of Students' Office. It will give students an opportunity to party in the streets of old Detroit at the Detroit Historical Museum, have a date night with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, screen vintage films at the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre and much more.
The Thursdays in the D series begins Sept. 8 at the Majestic Theatre with a free show by Washington, D.C. rapper Wale.
"Midtown is a vital part of the excitement and growth of our city," said David Strauss, Wayne State University dean of students. "Wayne State students have such a unique opportunity with so many great cultural venues in their backyard; we want them to take full advantage of it."
Students need only their One Card identification for access to each week's event. Free shuttles also will be provided.
A full list of events is available at http://wayne.edu/thursdaysinthed/index.php.
Media are invited to cover all events. Please confirm attendance with Jessica Archer at 313-577-4562 or jarcher@wayne.edu.
