Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will honor alumni and community leaders at the annual Collegian Awards Sept. 6

Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) will hold its fifth annual Collegian Awards event at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 Ferry Mall, Detroit.

Established by the college in 2007, the Collegian Awards recognize outstanding alumni for their individual achievements, contributions to their industries or professions and service to their community. In addition, CLAS will present one Community Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals or organizations whose longstanding leadership and service have made a significant impact on their field and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

This year's Community Leadership Award will be given to Guy Stern, distinguished professor emeritus, Wayne State University.  

The Collegian Award recipients are Karl D. Gregory, distinguished professor emeritus, Oakland University; Elena Herrada, community activist leader; and Thomas Nantais, COO of the Henry Ford Medical Group. 

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a strolling dinner reception, followed by the awards presentation and dessert afterglow.
