Lifesaving breakthrough at DMC/WSU could also save billions in healthcare costs

The Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University recently announced a major breakthrough that will reduce the alarming number of premature births. Research physicians discovered in clinical trials that the daily administration of low-cost progesterone treatments for women with a certain cervical abnormality could reduce preterm births by half. The three-year, international medical trial was conducted by the NIH's Perinatology Research Branch - a collaboration between the PRB, at DMC Hutzel Women's Hospital and Wayne State University.
