Women Of Wayne 45th Annual Headliner Awards program

Honors outstanding Wayne State University alumnae

DETROIT - April 1, 2011 - The Women of Wayne Alumni Association will host its annual Headliner Award luncheon on Saturday, May 14. For 45 years, the Headliner Awards have been presented to Wayne State university alumnae whose achievements have made headlines in the media during the preceding year. The award acknowledges Wayne State women who make their mark in society.

The Women of Wayne Alumni Association was organized in 1937. The objectives of the association are: to provide fellowship and leadership opportunities for Wayne Women to develop service programs for the University, to help expand women's opportunities for education, to recognize Wayne women for their contribution to society, to administer an Incentive Scholarship Program for students and to serve as a voice for alumnae in University related matters and alumni affairs.

This year's honorees are Yvette Bing, First Lady of the City of Detroit, Laura Carter Callow, Women's Civil Rights activist, Ann Fitzsimons, co-founder and associate director of Compassionate Passages, Ruth Johnson, Secretary of the State of Michigan and Marilyn Kelly, Supreme Court Justice for the State of Michigan.

The service award has been presented annually since 1980 to a Women of Wayne member who has given significant service to the organization, Wayne State University and the community. This year's recipient is Theresa Lorio of Roseville.

The Women of Wayne Headliners luncheon and program will begin at 11 a.m. at the Westin Book-Cadillac in Detroit. Cost is $45. Parking is $5. For reservations, go to www.alumni.wayne.edu/events or call 313-577-2300.
