In honor of its 25-year anniversary, Wayne State University's Journalism Institute for Media Diversity will host "A Salute to 25-Year Journalists," on Saturday, May 14, at the Community Arts Auditorium, 450 Reuther Mall on the WSU campus.

The event pays homage to nearly 30 outstanding print and broadcast media professionals. Event emcees are Huel Perkins of WJBK-TV 2, Devin Scillian of WDIV-TV 4 and Glenda Lewis of WXYZ-TV 7. Funds raised through the event will go toward the Journalism Institute's scholarship program,

"In our 25 years we have trained some of the brightest and most sought-after journalism graduates in the nation," said Ben Burns, director of the WSU journalism program and a founder of the Journalism Institute. "Our students routinely place in national competitions and we want to ensure the continuation of the mission in our increasingly diverse world."

The WSU Journalism Institute for Media Diversity trains high-achieving students for careers in media. The institute offers scholarships for students to study print, broadcast and new media journalism. Along with their studies, Journalism Institute students work as interns at local and national news and public relations agencies.

Tickets for the anniversary celebration are $125 and include an awards presentation from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a dessert afterglow. Complimentary valet and structure parking is available.
