Inauguration ceremony for Allan Gilmour, 11th president of Wayne State University. Gilmour was unanimously elected by the WSU Board of Governors to serve as president on January 18, 2011. A reception will take place following the ceremony, and a celebration, featuring performances by students from the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts will be held in the evening.

Friday, April 15, 2011. The inauguration ceremony takes place at 3 p.m. while the inauguration celebration begins at 7 p.m.

As part of the day's activities, Wayne State will host an Academic Symposium to showcase how a great research university nurtures academic talent. The symposium will take place at 11 a.m. April 15 in WSU's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. The program will be organized around brief faculty presentations demonstrating the many forms of talent and scholarship at Wayne State.
President Gilmour, a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan, spent most of his career at Ford Motor Company, from which he retired in 1995 as vice chairman. He rejoined the company as vice chairman in 2002, and retired again in 2005, having overseen Finance, the General Auditor's office, Human Resources, Corporate Affairs and Corporate Strategy. He also led Ford's financial services sector-Ford Motor Credit and Hertz Corporation. Gilmour currently serves on the boards of DTE Energy Company, Business Leaders for Michigan, and Downtown Detroit Partnership. Previously he was a member of the boards of Ford Motor Co., US West, MediaOne Group, Prudential Financial, Dow Chemical, Whirlpool and Universal Technical Institute. He is also chairman of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and a trustee of Citizens Research Council.
Gilmour was raised on his family's dairy farm in Barnet, Vt. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University and a master of business administration from the University of Michigan Business School.
