Wayne State Dance Showcase features new work

DETROIT (January 14, 2011) - WSU's Dance Workshop company celebrates its 82nd year of providing high-quality professional dance training, education and performance opportunities. The Maggie Allesee Department of Dance is pleased to present the 2011 Dance Workshop Showcase on Friday February 18 and Saturday, February 19 at 7:30PM, and finishing Sunday February 20 at 3PM in the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre.

\"\"Featuring new choreography, the Dance Workshop Showcase presents nine performances of outstanding student and guest artist works. Senior Aaron Smith presents his free flowing quartet "Deterior." Senior Bryan Strimpel presents his high-octane ensemble work "Cause A Frenzy." Finally, the highly anticipated world premiere of "DYAD," choreographed by renowned dancer/choreographer Ron De Jesus
will complete the program. The Winter Showcase also features the popular Silent Auction and a pre-glow event, "An Evening of Celebration of Dance" on Friday, February 18. Proceeds will benefit Dance Workshop's artistic endeavors and support the company's touring, guest artists and production costs.

General admission for the Showcase concert is $12; $6 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available to purchase by pre-sale only through the Maggie Allesee Department of Dance office. Limited tickets will be available at the door for $15. Box office opens 30 minutes prior to performance. Seating is limited. The Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre is located in the Old Main Building (3rd Floor) at 4841 Cass Avenue on campus.

The pre-glow event "An Evening of Celebration of Dance" will take place at 6:15PM on Friday February 18 in Suite 3343 of Old Main. Tickets for the reception are $30 per person and $55 per couple. Admission to the Showcase concert is included. Pre-glow tickets must be reserved in advance. Please email Emily Durand to reserve your pre-glow tickets at wsudanceworkshop@gmail.com.
