Nork, who has more than 30 years of corporate finance and administration experience, will oversee accounting and fiscal operations, facilities planning and management, human resources, purchasing, administrative policies and procedures, and investment, debt and risk for the university.
Nork replaces John L. Davis, who is retiring after more than 25 years' service to the university.
"Rick Nork's enthusiasm, experience and talents will make him an indispensable member of the university family," said WSU President Allan Gilmour. "I look forward to working with him to keep Wayne State a strong, efficient and progressive organization.
Prior to his appointment, Nork was chief financial officer for Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC in Elyria, Ohio. Previously he held several executive management positions during his 10 years with Farmington Hills-based Robert Bosch Corporation, and more than 16 years with General Electric Company.
"I'm honored by this opportunity to join the management team of such an outstanding university," Nork said. "Wayne State is committed to academic and operational standards that are a benchmark in the field of higher education. I look forward to contributing to the university's continued success."
Wayne State University is a premier urban research institution of higher education offering more than 400 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to nearly 32,000 students.
