Wayne State University Law School congratulates its two national Moot Court teams, third-year students Adam Clements, Jessica Lange and Kathryn Tignanelli, and Carol Bagdady, Andrew Beck and Kenneth Koshorek, on their impressive performance in the regional round of the New York City Bar Association National Moot Court Competition held at the University of Toledo College of Law Nov. 20-21.

The regional competition, which tested the participants' skills in both oral advocacy and legal writing, focused on issues based on a fictional municipal health care ordinance. The problem posed questions involving the proper legal standard for a preliminary injunction, and the preemption of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

The team of Clements, Lange and Tignanelli was undefeated in the preliminary rounds, where 15 teams were represented. The students defeated the University of Akron School of Law in the quarterfinals before falling to Case Western Reserve University School of Law by less than one-half of a point in the semifinals.

The team's brief, written by Tignanelli, won second place in the competition.

"This experience provided an outstanding opportunity to represent the excellent education received at Wayne Law," Lange said.
