Wayne State University's School of Business Administration and Department of Accounting will host the annual George R. Husband Distinguished Lecture Series with Michigan Gov.-Elect Rick Snyder, who will deliver the keynote address on reinventing Michigan's economy. Snyder is the first CPA to be elected governor of Michigan. He will address an audience of primarily Wayne State students who are studying accounting and taxation as well as business and community leaders. Snyder will speak about how the accounting profession is particularly relevant today given Michigan's economic challenges, and will recount his personal journey from the private sector to the state capitol in Lansing.

The George R. Husband Lecture Series is an annual program commemorating the life, career and influence of the most respected and beloved accounting professors in the nation. Professor Husband, a member of the faculty of Wayne State University from 1926 to his untimely death in 1958, and chair of its Department of Accounting, authored six standard accounting texts and continues to rank among the dozen most frequent authors in The Accounting Review. He also served as president of the American Accounting Association from 1955 to 1956.
Rick Snyder is the State of Michigan's Governor-Elect. By age 23, he earned three degrees from the University of Michigan-a Bachelor's degree with high distinction; an MBA with distinction and a JD. After becoming a partner with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in six years, he helped grow Gateway Computers from about 750 to over 10,000 employees and become a Fortune 500 company.
He later started two venture capital companies, each funded with $100 million of investment capital, to help create or develop 20 start-up companies, including HealthMedia, Inc., HandyLab and Esperion Therapeutics.
