Wayne State University\'s Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies hosts photo exhibit: Buscando a América/Searching for America, Oct. 1-15

Wayne State University\'s Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies will host a photographic exhibit chronicling Hector Quevedo\'s adventure-filled, 22,000-mile quest to find America. The South American left Chile\'s Punta Arenas behind the wheel of a 1929 Model A Ford bound for Canada, a two-year journey taking him through 14 countries as he made his way north.

The former tanner and vintage automobile mechanic left Oct. 12, 1992, marking the 500th anniversary of the European presence in the New World, and arrived at Niagara Falls on Nov. 28, 1994. He subsequently drove to Detroit, where he donated his prized Ford car to the Henry Ford Museum.

The Buscando a América/Searching for America exhibit, which culminates Wayne State\'s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, will be on public display in the atrium of the Faculty Administration Building (FAB) Oct. 1-15. A reception, also open to the public and held at FAB, is scheduled for 6-8 p.m Friday, Oct. 1. FAB is located at 656 West Kirby, Detroit.
