DETROIT (Aug. 4, 2010) - Wayne State University Law School congratulates second-year law student Emily Thomas on her recent appointment as vice chair of the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) Student Committee.

"I congratulate Ms. Thomas on her recent appointment with the Oakland County Bar Association," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "She is an excellent representative of the fine students enrolled here at Wayne Law."

Added Barry Malone, attorney at Adkinson, Need and Allen PLLC and OCBA director of the New Lawyers Committee, "I have had the good fortune to work with Emily on a couple of projects. I know that she will do a wonderful job in her role as vice chair and make us all very proud."

The committee will hold its first meeting of the year on Sept. 20, 2010. Committee meetings will be held throughout the year at Wayne Law, the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and the OCBA offices. 

According to Thomas, committee goals for 2010-11 include hosting expert speakers and panel discussions about securing employment in the legal profession, working closely with the OCBA New Lawyers Committee on a number of initiatives, and helping students network with practicing attorneys.

"I am really excited about the opportunity to serve on this committee and look forward to working with the OCBA," Thomas said. "I see student involvement with the OCBA as an excellent tool to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the reality of practice."
