DETROIT (January 21, 2010) - Wayne State University's Dance Workshop presents its Showcase Concert on Friday, February 12, and Saturday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 14, at 3:00 p.m in the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre. The showcase features a variety of exciting works choreographed by members of the Dance Workshop Company, as well as dances from other talented students from the Maggie Allesee Department of Dance.
Alex Martin (BFA '10) presents her work "Constant" exploring the continuity in our lives, through athletic movement. Briana Rainey (BFA '10) presents her piece "Good Girl" illustrating suppressed women coming together to collectively stand. Kate Vincek (BFA '10) presents her work "Shrill," a piece inspired by challenges and discomforting experiences within a community.
Founded in 1928, the Wayne State University Dance Workshop focuses on artistic development, student choreography and repertory that mirror today's leading professional dance companies, in addition to bringing high quality dance to the campus and community.
General admission is $5; the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre is located in the Old Main building (3rd Floor) at 4841 Cass Avenue on campus. Box-office opens 30 minutes prior to performance. Seating is limited. Dance Workshop is also hosting a "Meet the Company" event prior to Friday's performance at 6:00 p.m. There will be a silent auction held just outside the studio doors during all concerts. Funds raised from silent auction and ticket sales will benefit necessities for Dance Workshop.
