DETROIT (Nov. 19, 2009) - Wayne State University Law School second-year student Deborah Fisch recently earned second place in the State Bar of Michigan Health Care Law Section's annual Law Student Writing Contest.

The Law Student Writing Contest is open to all second- and third-year Michigan law students. Papers are judged by Bar of Michigan council members on quality of the legal analysis, innovative approach to the topic, style, grammar and appearance. The first place recipient receives $2,000 and the second place recipient receives $1,500.

Fisch's essay discussed assisted reproductive technology, the right of a patient to demand implantation of multiple embryos and the right of the doctor to refuse.

"Taking part in the contest gave me a wonderful opportunity to learn about a new area of law," Fisch said. "I'm very honored by this award."

Fisch's second-place prize comes just one year after now Wayne Law alumna Lindsey Hoffman won second place in 2008.
