Wayne Law Ranks in Top 40 Law Schools Nationwide in 2010 Super Lawyers Listing

DETROIT (Nov. 18, 2009) - Wayne State University Law School was ranked as a top 40 law school in the 2010 Super Lawyers listing published Nov. 17, 2009. The list, which ranks law schools based on the number of graduates selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers magazine, placed Wayne Law 37th out of 180 law schools nationwide.

\"\"According to Bill White, publisher of Super Lawyers and Law & Politics magazines, the ranking serves as an indicator of the quality of alumni law schools produce.

"Most law school rankings look at things like bar passage rates, professor-to-student ratios and the number of books in the library, but they ignore the end product - the quality of lawyers produced," White said in a Nov. 17 release on the Super Lawyers blog. "We think it's like ranking football teams based on athletic facilities, player size and equipment without considering who wins the games."

Previously, the 2009 issue of Michigan Super Lawyers magazine released in September placed Wayne Law at the top of its list of law schools whose graduates are among the most accomplished in the state. According to the magazine, 347 - or 24 percent - of Michigan's top lawyers are Wayne Law graduates.

Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman stated in a September letter to alumni and friends, "I believe that this listing says a great deal about our law school. Year in, year out, Wayne Law graduates are leaders of the bar, in Michigan and elsewhere. And it is easy to see why. Our students are bright, mature, conscientious and altruistic. They understand that anything they achieve will be the product of hard work. Our faculty are superb teachers, whose nationally and internationally recognized scholarship adds depth to our students' understanding of legal theory, doctrine and practice. Our students and faculty are engaged in the community and the profession, demonstrating that the worlds of academia and practice can be effectively linked. This mixture of motivation and expertise has produced several generations of superb lawyers."
