Opportunities provided to help Detroit and its surrounding communities during Volunteer Fair at Wayne State University on Nov. 12

The general public is invited to attend a Volunteer Fair at Wayne State University on Thursday, Nov. 12 for the opportunity to volunteer at some of Metro Detroit's premier volunteer organizations. Volunteer positions, which are available due to Metro Detroit's current economic conditions, will assist participants in obtaining career skills and networking opportunities while they serve the community.

The growing list of available volunteer organizations includes:

• APM (AIDS PARTNERSHIP MICHIGAN)
• NSO (NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICE ORGANIZATION)
• Bridging Communities
• Judah House
• Affirmations
• Dominican Literacy
• Focus Hope
• COTS
• Crossroads
• Forgotten Harvest
• Pet Adoption Alternative
• United Way
• Big Brothers Big Sisters
• Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau
• Alternatives for Girls

The Volunteer Fair will be held at Wayne State University's Student Center Building, located at 5221 Gullen Mall, 2nd Floor Ballroom, on the main Detroit campus. Activities will run from 3-4:30 p.m. Parking will be available at Structure #2, located between the Lodge Service Drive and Anthony Wayne Drive. Parking will cost $3.50. The event will be free.

Sponsoring student organizations include International Social Workers Organization, Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians and Allies in Social Work, Greater Detroit Association of Black Social Workers, School of Social Work Student Organization, Peer Mentors and Student Council Representatives.
