Panel at Wayne State will discuss progress of efforts to prove innocence of man imprisoned for rape

WHAT:
Panel discussion on "The Anatomy of Innocence Case: Karl Vinson." A panel of legal scholars and attorneys will examine the case of a man who is currently serving time for a rape of which he may have been wrongly accused and convicted. Karl Vinson was convicted and sentenced in 1986, but evidence in the case is being disputed by the Michigan Innocence Clinic with an eye toward a successful appeal of the conviction. The panel will examine how the clinic is making a case for overturning the guilty verdict.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, noon - 1:30 p.m.

WHERE:
Hilberry Room A, Student Center Building, Wayne State University

PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:
Professor Marvin Zalman, of the Wayne State University Department of Criminal Justice, College of Liberal Arts and Scienceswill be the moderator. Professor Aaron Westrick of Lake Superior State University will deliver opening remarks. Professor Judy A. Westrick of Lake Superior State University will be the keynote speaker on the topic "Re-analyzing the Evidence."

Sandra Bailiff Gerard, J.D., executive director of Prison Legal Services of Michigan: "Initiating the Case."
Professors Donna McKneelen and Maria Mitchell of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School Innocence Project: "Moving the Case Forward."
Professor David Moran and law student Chad Ray of the University of Michigan Innocence Clinic: "Bringing the Case to Court."
