MEDIA ADVISORY - Popular WSU Annual Mortuary Science Open House Scheduled for Oct. 15

Editor's Note: Speakers are available prior to the event for interviews on the open house and funeral museum. Museum will not be on-site until the afternoon of open house, Oct. 15. Please contact Cheryl Yurkovich or Kathleen Karas for interviews.

What:
Annual Mortuary Science Open House featuring the bomb response mobile unit of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Reflections: The American Funeral, a mobile museum exploring customs from Native American burial grounds to celebrity funerals, such as Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley.

Why:
Visit Mortuary Science Building and learn about the programs of Mortuary Science, Anatomic Pathologists' Assistant, Forensic Investigation and Clinical Laboratory Science. Tour embalming, anatomy, restorative arts, and microbiology laboratories. There also is a merchandising room displaying caskets, urns, vaults, prayer cards and other funeral service accessories.

Open house began in 1991 as a small gathering of alumni, friends, students and their parents. Last year, more than 900 visitors toured the building in three hours.
