Feleta L. Wilson, associate professor in Wayne State University's College of Nursing, recently was selected as a 2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar to Jamaica, joining the ranks of a number of distinguished alumni of the program including heads of state, judges, ambassadors, CEOs, Nobel Prize winners and more.

Wilson will be assigned to the University of the West Indies in Jamaica during the Fall 2009 semester. Her role as a Scholar will include instructing public health in the school's undergraduate program, promoting her research in patient education and patient health literacy at local community health centers and health districts and conducting a research project on childhood immunizations. In addition, she is also serving as a research/scholarship consultant for the nursing faculty at the school.

According to the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB), grants such as the one awarded to Wilson are made possible through funds that are appropriated annually by the U.S. Congress, or by contributions from partner countries and/or the private sector.

Wilson received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University, and her research interests include: health literary communication, patient education, urban/community health and developing, designing and field-testing easy-to-read patient education materials.
