DETROIT (Sept. 2, 2009) - Wayne State University Law School students, alumni and guests interested in gaining additional insight into labor law are invited to attend the 17th annual Bernard Gottfried Memorial Labor Law Symposium from 8:15 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.

Sponsored by Wayne Law, the National Labor Relations Board, Region Seven, and the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Section, the symposium will be held in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium and will feature, among others, speaker Keith M. Crain, chairman of Crain Communications Inc. Breakout sessions, led by local and national labor relations experts, include:

• Board Cases of Recent Vintage - Here Today, Gone Tomorrow?
• Labor Law Reform - If Not Now, When?
• The Duty of Fair Representation
• Bringing a Charge Before the NLRB

The registration fee for the symposium is $100 and includes all sessions, a continental breakfast and lunch. Students, NLRB staff and government employees may register for a reduced cost of $25. Proceeds from the symposium will be used to fund future educational programs and labor-related studies at the Law School.

Bernard Gottfried (1925-1992) was director of the National Labor Relations Board, Region Seven from 1973 until his death. He taught at Wayne Law for many years and this symposium honors his vision for labor relations.
