Wayne State University will soon employ its first ever motorcycle division with the graduation of WSU officers Eleshia Kelly and Shannon White-Thomas from the Detroit Police Department's 2009 Police Officer Motorcycle Certification Training program on June 9.

The officers were two of only four participants and the only females who passed the rigorous three week course, which helped them develop the coordination, skill and confidence necessary to operate a police motorcycle safely and efficiently.

Kelly, of Livonia, and White-Thomas, who resides in Grand Blanc, will use their new classification to enforce stronger pedestrian and traffic safety throughout Wayne State's 203-acre campus. The pair will also escort dignitaries to and from campus, participate in local parades and show support at the funerals of fallen officers from other police departments.
