Wayne State extends Tuition and Fee Grace Period for fall 2009, easing students\' financial stress in tough economic times

University goes the extra mile to preserve access to higher education

In a continuing effort to relieve the economy-induced financial stress plaguing many of Michigan's college students, Wayne State University has acted decisively to extend the Tuition & Fee Grace Period Program for the fall 2009 semester through July 15, 2009.

University students who owe a delinquent tuition balance of $1,500 or less will be permitted to register for classes immediately upon signing an agreement to pay the delinquent balances in full by Friday, July 31, 2009 or sooner if possible. Eligibility requirements also include:

• Prior enrollment for the winter and/or spring/summer 2009 semester(s);
• An outstanding tuition and fee balance (including housing and meals) not exceeding $1,500; and
• A balance not under assignment to a collection agency.

No additional late fees or finance charges will accrue to students who sign the agreement to make their payment in full at any time during the grace period from the date of signing through July 31, 2009.

The grace period program applies only to registration for the fall 2009 semester. Students electing to participate should report to the Student Accounts Receivable Office on the 4th floor of the Welcome Center on the corner of Cass and Warren avenues to complete and sign the Tuition & Fee Grace Period Payment Agreement.

"As an urban research university committed to its historic mission of preserving access to higher education, Wayne State is obliged to help students stay in school and earn the degree that will make them employable," said Al Hermsen, director of Wayne State's Office of Financial Aid. "Extending the tuition and fee grace period as long as possible gives students additional time to work, save money and pay off their balances. This approach provides the significant flexibility students need to overcome the current extenuating financial circumstances."
