DETROIT (April 7, 2009) - Wayne State University Law School Professor Ralph Slovenko recently published the second edition of "Psychiatry in Law/Law in Psychiatry."

Professor Ralph Slovenko has served as a professor at Wayne law since 1969, where he teaches seminars in Law and Behavioral Science, Medical and Psychiatric Malpractice, and Psychiatry and Law. In addition to his tenure in academia, his wide background has included serving as law clerk to Louisiana Supreme Court Justice E. Howard McCaleb, a Fulbright Scholar in France, a New Orleans senior assistant district attorney, a practicing attorney, and a U.S. District Court Commissioner (for Judge J. Skelly Wright). He has also held residency in psychiatry and faculty appointments at Tulane University, the University of Kansas and the Menninger Foundation.

Professor Slovenko's bibliography of more than 20 books and 200 articles ranges over a diverse field. He is editor of the American Series in Behavioral Science and Law, and is a regular commentator in the Journal of Psychiatry and Law. He has lectured in various countries including Australia, France, Israel, Japan, Russia (Soviet Union) and South Africa.

His book, "Psychiatry and Law" (published in 1973), was awarded the Manfred Guttmacher Award of the American Psychiatric Association, cited as "a monumental work" and named the "Book-of-the-Month" selection of the Behavioral Science Book Club.
