Inauguration ceremony for Wayne State President Jay Noren set for April 7 at Detroit Institute of Arts

WHAT:
Inauguration ceremony for Jay Noren, 10th president of Wayne State University. The event will open with a colorful procession, including music, banner-bearers and university officials in academic regalia. President Noren will receive the Chain of Office, signifying his authority and responsibilities as the university's chief administrative officer, from Richard Bernstein, chair of the WSU Board of Governors. The president will deliver an address regarding his vision for the university. A reception will follow the ceremony. In conjunction with inauguration day festivities, a special arts performance titled "Curtain Call" is scheduled for 4 p.m.

WHEN:
Tuesday, April 7. Inauguration ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Special arts tribute performance, titled "Curtain Call," at 4 p.m.

WHERE:
Detroit Institute of Arts - in the Detroit Film Theatre Auditorium.

PARTICIPANTS:
Joining President Noren on the platform will be members of the WSU Board of Governors, university officers and special guests. Donna Shalala, president of the University of Miami and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, will deliver remarks. WSU Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Nancy Barrett will preside at the ceremonies.

OTHER INFORMATION:

• The 4 p.m. Curtain Call performance will feature student, faculty and alumni artists from the WSU College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. It will be a high-energy tribute to jazz, musical theatre and innovative dance. A brief student-produced film will be shown. Curtain Call is sponsored by the WSU Alumni Association.

• Admission to the inauguration ceremony and the Curtain Call music/dance performance is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and capacity is limited. RSVP by March 27 at specialevents.wayne.edu/inauguration. Tickets will be mailed.
