The Wayne State Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds will perform on Wednesday, October 29, at 7:30 pm in Community Arts Auditorium at 5451 Cass Avenue. Conducted by Cliff Chapman, the concert will include wind and percussion music spanning the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. Students will perform works composed by Beethoven, Gordon Jacob, Malcom Arnold, Eric Whitacre, Gustav Holst and John Philip Sousa. Wednesday's performance will also be the WSU premier of Cityscapes, composed by Scott Boerma, Marching Band Director at the University of Michigan. Tickets will be sold at the door, $5 for students and seniors, $8 general.
On Wednesday, December 10, Wayne State's Wind Symphony and Concert Band, conducted by Cliff Chapman, will perform Victtorio Gianninni's Symphony no. 3. A native of New York State, Cliff Chapman received a Performer's Certificate, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and Master of Music in Conducting from the State University College of New York at Fredonia. After 27 years as Director of Instrumental Music and K-12 Fine and Performing Arts Coordinator for the Clarkston Community Schools, Mr. Chapman retired from public school education in 2004. Prior to his tenure at Clarkston he served on the faculties at SUNY-Fredonia and Eastern Michigan University. As an active member of professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels, he has served as the State Chair for the National Band Association, State Chair of the American School Band Directors Association, and State President of both the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and the Michigan Competing Band Association. Currently Mr. Chapman is serving as visiting professor and Director of Bands at Wayne State University and is active as an educational consultant, adjudicator, and clinicianconductor.

Many members of the music faculty, including musicians from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and some of the area's finest jazz and vocal artists, have toured throughout the world as performers, clinicians, conductors and composers.
