DETROIT (Oct. 16, 2008) - Wayne State University Law School is pleased to present a lecture by Stephen Abraham, an American lawyer and officer of the United State Army reserves, titled "The Mistakes of Guantanamo and the Decline of America's Image: The Ghosts of Nuremburg." The event is sponsored by the Wayne Law International Law Students Association and will take place from 12:15 - 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. Lunch will be provided.

Lt. Colonel Abraham is the first officer who served with the Office for the Administrative Review of the Detention of Enemy Combatants to publicly criticize the operations of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals. The Tribunals determine whether the United States should continue to hold detainees at Guantanamo Bay. His affidavit was key to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Boumediene v. Bush (2008), holding that Guantanamo detainees may challenge their detention in federal court through a writ of Habeas Corpus. Lt. Colonel Abraham has served 22 years in Army Intelligence and is known for his meritorious service record.
