The Confucius Institute at Wayne State University will sponsor a Chinese teaching conference on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the campus of Wayne State University.

The conference theme is: "Chinese Language and Culture: What to Teach and How to Teach It." Anyone interested in attending may find further details and a registration form on line by visiting the WSU Confucius Institute Web site at: http://www.clas.wayne.edu/ci/. Proposals will be accepted until Oct. 25. Anyone with ideas to share about teaching Chinese language or culture, improving classroom management, or introducing study-abroad or extra-curricular programs is encouraged to submit a proposal. The Confucius Institute at Wayne State is committed to establishing and supporting a strong foundation for Chinese language and cultural education in Michigan, especially in the Greater Detroit area. Among its primary initiatives has been to establish a professional organization for Chinese language educators in the state. The resulting organization, known as the Chinese Language Association of Michigan, or CLAM, will bring together educators of Chinese to share teaching ideas at levels K-16. CLAM will offer an annual conference, a Web site, and sponsor two annual China Quiz Bowls--one at the K-12 level and another at the college level. First year membership to CLAM is free simply by registering for the annual conference.
