The Hilberry Theatre Company is changing the way it sees the color green. In support of Wayne State University's campus-wide initiative to protect the environment, the company is launching an email collection campaign. Hilberry patrons and the general public now have the opportunity to join the Hilberry Click-a special group who receives Hilberry benefits through e-mail.

The Hilberry Click is a new way for the Hilberry Theatre Company to connect to its audience members. Over 175,000 pieces of paper are sent to patrons each year, mostly in the form of postcards, brochures, and season calendars. In order to reduce paper waste, the Hilberry wants the Click to serve as a new cultural stop on the information superhighway.

The hope is that patrons will connect with the Hilberry in a whole new way, in the process receiving the latest information on upcoming shows, special events, and discounts only available to Hilberry Click members. Members will be the first to be informed of the upcoming season, and they can opt out of the e-mail list at any time. The Hilberry Company limits the e-mail distribution to only two e-mails per month.

The Hilberry Theatre is just a small component of Wayne State's recycling program. In September of 2006, Wayne State University put into action an environmental task force, which focuses on energy conservation, sustainability and a campus-wide recycling program. Green recycling bins have been placed conveniently throughout the campus to promote awareness and accountability. The task force realized that environmentally conscious practices on site will result in cost savings and reduce waste. The bins collect thousands of pounds of plastic and glass each year.
