The Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies would like to remind you of three upcoming events

1- Professor Sara R. Horowitz of York University will give a presentation entitled "Sarah Kofman and the Ambiguity of Mothers." Sarah Kofman, a Professor of Philosophy at the Sorbonne prior to World War II, was among the most significant prewar thinkers in France. Her scholarship included works on Freud and psychoanalysis, Nietzsche and feminism. She was interested in Judaism and anti-Semitism in literature and philosophy. This, the Center's first program of the 2008-09 year, will take place on Tuesday, September 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. in Room 2339 in the Faculty/Administration Building. 2-The launching of the Jewish Studies minor will take place on Tuesday, September 23rd, at 6 p.m. in McGregor Memorial Conference Center. Dr. Jay Noren, President of Wayne State, and Sara R. Horowitz will offer remarks. The program is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Wayne State University Press, Hillel of Metropolitan Detroit, and the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies. 3-The Humanities Center has invited Michael Scrivener, English, to lecture on Wednesday, November 19th, on "Two Worlds: Reading Anglo-Jewish Writing."

In addition, Margaret Winters, CMLLC, and Geoffrey Nathan, English will speak on Wednesday, March 25, on "The Current State of Yiddish." Both programs will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Room 2339 FAB. For further information: 577-5471.
