Media Advisory - Study to be released by Michigan Prospect on the Economic Benefits of Embryonic Stem Cell Research

A new independent study commissioned by Michigan Prospect, a nonprofit institute working to develop sound public policy in Michigan, will be released on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. This report discusses the potential that embryonic stem cell research can greatly benefit hundreds of thousands of Michigan patients, and help reduce high healthcare costs in the state. Health economist Dr. Allen Goodman, an economics professor at Wayne State University, conducted the independent study. Wayne State University will host one of the press conferences announcing the study.

Allen Goodman is a professor of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wayne State University. He received his Ph.D. from Yale and has written extensively on healthcare, housing and urban economics. He is a member of the International Health Economics Association and the American Society of Health Economists.

Olivia (Libby) Maynard is president of Michigan Prospect, a nonprofit committed to building sound public policy through open discussions, research, education and advocacy involving both the public and private sectors.

Lynn Jondahl is executive director of Michigan prospect. Jondahl served in the Legislature for 22 years.
