Wayne State's Department of Music and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra are pleased to present the Power of Dreams Strings Project, providing low-cost weekly lessons in violin, viola, cello or double bass during the fall and winter terms. All Detroit-area children are welcome.

The WSU component of this innovative new string education program is funded via Wayne State's President's Research Enhancement Program in the Arts and by grants from the NAMM Foundation through the National String Project Consortium. Starting this fall, selected undergraduate string majors will teach violin, viola, cello and bass to small groups of 3rd-5th grade beginners. These classes will form the foundation level of the Power of Dreams program.

Classes meet in Old Main on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings and each semester culminates with a performance in the Music Box concert space at Detroit's Max M. Fisher Music Center. Tuition is very modest: $150 for two 12-week semesters.

Power of Dreams classes for intermediate-level students will also meet at Wayne State, on Saturdays only.
