Wayne State University announces two administrative promotions

Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid announced today two key appointments in the university's administration. Anthony D. Holt has been promoted to Associate Vice President and Chief of Police, and Jeffrey D. Block has been named Assistant Vice President for Special Events. Both appointments are effective Aug. 1, 2008.

Holt, current WSU chief of police, has held several positions within the university's police department since he joined the force as a police officer in 1977. He rose through the ranks to sergeant, lieutenant, captain and now chief during a career spanning more than 30 years.

Chief Holt, a Detroit resident, has participated in numerous advanced training sessions including more than 1,500 hours of advanced and specialized training in case investigations, command officer development, incident command training, use of deadly force, managing high risk situations, and police instructor training. He is a graduate of Wayne State University.

Block, a Clinton Township resident, has been Director of Special Events and Services since he joined Wayne State in 2003. He directs a staff of six professional event managers, two program specialists and two student assistants. The department manages all presidential, alumni, university and development events.

Prior to joining Wayne State, Block held positions in the food service industry. He earned a bachelors degree from Michigan State University.
