Wayne State University music student Michael Karloff of Windsor, Ontario, has received a nomination for a Michigan Emmy award in the craft specialty category for musical composition/ arrangement for his work "5 Years." The composition was commissioned as the theme song for the local television series "Leaders on Leadership", a co-production of the Wayne State University School of Business Administration and Detroit Public Television (WTVS-TV). The Emmy awards will be presented at a gala event on June 7, 2008 at the Gem Theatre. Another nominee in the same category, Kevin Wilt, is a Wayne State alumnus

"When we decided to upgrade the music for our program, I immediately contacted WSU's music department about having this done by Wayne's music students," says Larry Fobes, host of Leaders on Leadership and director of the WSU business school's Institute for Organizational and Industrial Competitiveness. "The director of jazz studies recommended Mike Karloff. Mike was a joy to work with-enormously talented, very professional and great fun. He and a student crew of musicians and recording experts produced the theme in a Wayne State studio."

The Michigan Emmy awards are coordinated and presented by the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to recognize excellence in the television industry. The Academy is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. Anyone can submit an entry for nomination, but only work deemed Emmy quality by peers in the television industry in other national markets receives a nomination.

"Leaders on Leadership" is currently taping its fifth season. In 2005, the show received an Emmy award for "best interview/discussion program." It received two Emmy nominations in 2006, including "best educational program." In each weekly episode, the craft of leadership is explored through revealing interviews with chief executives. Each half-hour edition seeks to expose the character, drive, and ambition of individuals renowned for their leadership in guiding local, national, and international organizations. Episodes are taped at Detroit Public Television's New Center area studios before an audience of Wayne State students.
