DETROIT, MI (February 27, 2008) - Pulitzer Prize winning American composer Robert Ward will be in residence at Wayne State from March 14-19, 2008.

On Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30 pm, WSU University Orchestra will perform Ward's Euphony for Orchestra and Dialogues: Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano and Orchestra. The concert will be held in the Community Arts Auditorium on the Wayne State campus (5451 Cass Ave). Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8.00, $5.00 for students and seniors. Ward will participate in interviews before and after the concert. He will also present lectures and workshops for WSU students on March 17 and 18.

Conducted by Kypros Markou, the concert will feature Marcy Chanteaux, cello; Robert Conway, piano; and Marian Tanau, violin.

Ward will also attend performances by the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra (Friday, March 14, 8:00 pm) and Warren Symphony Orchestra (Sunday, March 16, 3:00 pm) whose programs include his music. Robert Ward received the 1962 Pulitzer Prize in Music and the New York Music Critics Citation for his opera The Crucible. He has received many commissions for his works, which have been performed by the New York Opera, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony, Central City Opera, Charlotte Opera, and the Greater Miami Opera, among others. His works include seven operas, large and small choral works, and diverse chamber music. Ward has conducted his own works with many orchestras throughout the world. A member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, he has held three Guggenheim fellowships and received grants from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Rockefeller Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Among his many awards are the North Carolina Award in Fine Arts, the Eastman School Achievement Award and the Cleveland Arts Prize. He continues to lecture at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
