The Hilberry Theatre, located on the corner of Hancock and Cass Ave., held a special benefit performance of Neil Simon's Biloxi Blues at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9. All proceeds benefit the 25 Wayne State students who lost everything in the tragic Forest Arms Apartment fire on the morning of February 6.
Through the volunteer effort of the Department of Theatre students, staff and faculty and Blimpie Subs on Hancock Avenue in Detroit, $6,084.62 was raised in the first step of Wayne State University relief efforts. Collections were also gathered from the Hilberry Theatre's patrons from February 7 - 9, which contributed to the amount raised.
All donations go to the students affected by this tragedy.
This response is just the first step in Wayne State's effort to support these students who lost so much.
