Pamela Trotman Reid, wife of Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid, named president of Saint Joseph College

Pamela Trotman Reid, provost and executive vice president at Roosevelt University in Chicago and wife of Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid, today was named the 8th president/chief executive of Saint Joseph College (SJC) in West Hartford, Connecticut. SJC is the only Catholic college for women in New England.

Reid was selected following a comprehensive national search process and was unanimously endorsed by the college’s Board of Trustees. She will begin her term in January 2008.

"Obviously, I am elated for Pamela. This is a wonderful opportunity, and she possesses the talent and vision to make a great difference in this excellent institution,” said Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid. “From my unique perspective as President of Wayne State, I would add \'welcome to the club.\' It is rare enough for a husband and wife to occupy university presidencies simultaneously, but I believe this is the first time in history it has occurred with an African American couple. This is indeed a delight for our entire family.”

President Irvin D. Reid, who recently announced his resignation at a date to be named later, is formulating plans for the next phase of what has been a remarkable career, culminating in his highly successful 10-year presidency at Wayne State. He recently remarked, “The university is strong and moving in a positive direction. And now with our capital campaign goals assured, I believe it is an excellent time to step down from the presidency.”

Pamela Reid has been at Roosevelt University since July 2004. Prior to that, she was head of the Women’s Studies Program, professor of Education and Psychology, and Research Scientist at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Michigan. Before that, she was professor of psychology, associate provost and dean for academic affairs, and interim provost at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Howard University, a master’s degree from Temple University and a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles and publications and has spoken extensively both nationally and internationally.

The Reids have a daughter, Nicole Reid Gore, who lives in St. Louis with her husband and their two children, and a son, Dexter Reid, who lives with his wife in San Francisco.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 11 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students.
