MEDIA ADVISORY - Wayne State University to receive multi-million dollar in-kind contribution

Second largest initial in-kind contribution in the nation and largest to a public university from PACE

Contribution announcement from PACE consortium set for Tuesday, Sept. 18


WHAT:
General Motors, EDS, Hewlett-Packard, Siemens UGS PLM Software and Sun Microsystems will announce a multi-million dollar in-kind contribution of engineering software and hardware package during a special event at Wayne State University in Detroit.

As Michigan’s future becomes staked to high tech, life science and alternative energy technology, skilled science and engineering graduates able to contribute to the emerging new industry will be critical.

The powerful real-world PACE tools and technologies being integrated across the Wayne State engineering curriculum gives students the experience they will encounter as new graduates working in high tech global industry.

The PACE consortium’s contribution is particularly timely, considering the serious budget cuts to Michigan’s universities instituted by the state legislature for the past five years.

WHEN:
Tuesday, Sept. 18, 10:30 a.m. – noon. MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT, PHOTO OP, AND Q & A. Full agenda below.

WHERE:
Wayne State University’s General Lectures Building, located at 5045 Anthony Wayne Drive, Detroit campus. Parking for media with prior arrangements available in Structure 2. Some parking available on day of event for marked vehicles in restricted curb zone in front of the College of Engineering.

Wayne State has been selected by the five companies as the newest member of the prestigious Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education, or PACE.

Top officials from each company will visit the campus on Tuesday, Sept. 18 to announce the amount of the in-kind donation, the largest ever received by the university.

The day will be filled with SEVERAL outstanding media opportunities.

You are also welcome to participate in tours of the Engineering labs and student demonstrations starting at 12:15 and running through 3:30pm. Full agenda is listed below.
